Judy in the sky

Fr, 2 and Sat, 3 May 2025

Location
Aux Gazelles, Rahlgasse 5, 1060 Vienna [barrier-free]

Just under a month to go until ‘Judy in the Sky’ – the event weekend with the big burner party MEtamorphosis!

Today we want to give you an insight into the varied and colourful event programme. The reason behind ‘Judy in the Sky’ is to honour the memory of our friend and fellow Burner Judith Schoßböck, who passed away in December with ME/CFS and serious accompanying illnesses. It is important for us to make clear: ‘Art for ME’ and MEtamorphosis are open to everyone – only the MEmorial part of the event is a more intimate setting for friends of Judith.

Get your MEtamorphosis ticket now: https://pretix.eu/austrianburners/MEtamorphosis/

This and more awaits you at ‘Judy in the Sky’ over the weekend:

Clothes bazaar: browse through Judy’s wardrobe and find new favourite pieces for yourself. From T-shirts and blouses to colourful yoga pants. You’ll find exquisite pieces at the MEtamorphosis Fashion Show.

Art gallery: pictures, videos and artworks by Black Ferk Studio and friends.

J-Style photo station: Put your footwear and your drink in the spotlight and become part of the interactive #jstyle gallery.

The bed-based clown experience: Slip into a clown costume and find out what it feels like to experience the world from your bed.

Mast cell-friendly electrolyte cocktails

But what happens at the individual parts of the event? Let’s start the weekend from the back – let’s begin with the burner party MEtamorphosis!

MEtamorphosis: https://blackferkstudio.com/en/judyinthesky-en/#metamorphosis

We celebrate life! Judith loved to celebrate and she was an enthusiastic and committed member of the Burning Man community.

In the spirit of Radical Inclusion and Communal Effort, everyone is not only welcome at MEtamorphosis – but also invited to join and organise the celebration together!
This and more awaits you at MEtamorphosis:

Fashion Show: Judy’s clothes want to live on! From glittering burner outfits to gothic and fetish treasures to wolves in Little Red Riding Hood outfits: bid for your new favourite costume!

Live music: Among the live acts, Herrin der Stürme will flatter your ears with special shanties and Judy’s favourites.

DJs: Of course you can also shake a leg on the dancefloor – for example with the DJ set by L.J. Violet (house, disco, garage, funk, soul – uplifting & groovy).

Roaming Plate Spinners: Let the plates dance high and low, or ask for a spontaneous plate spinning healing session.

Nail Salon: Nails are painted and glued Judy-style, take a seat and enjoy the treatment!

… and anything else you want to add – co-creation is the name of the game!

So much creativity in one place should be seen by as many people as possible – that’s why we’re opening the doors to the “Art for ME” art show on Saturday afternoon!

Art for ME: https://blackferkstudio.com/en/judyinthesky-en/#artforme

“Art for ME” displays art by Judith and people associated with her, many of whom are chronically ill themselves. Videos, pictures, objects and interactive installations provide an insight into their challenging reality of life but also show the particular strengths of the artists affected.
The exhibition also reveals Judith’s life before her illness, in which she was active as a scientist, globetrotting adventurer and committed member of the Burning Man community.

This and more awaits you at Art for ME:

Art by Judith Schoßböck and Matthias Mollner (Black Ferk Studio).

A very special co-creative sketchbook by Judith and Hazel Hughes.

Audio installation by Judith de Gavarelli: Nestled on an embroidered cushion, you listen to thoughts about how to respond autonomously to the illness ME/CFS as a person affected.

Information stands of the organisations WE&ME Foundation and Austrian Society for ME/CFS: Find out more about the chronic illness and the situation of those affected in Austria.

Oriental brunch: You have the opportunity to enjoy an oriental brunch (€28 p.p., 11 am – 4 pm), please register at office@auxgazelles.at.

Free admission, no registration necessary.

Now we come to the intimate part of “Judy in the Sky” – the MEmorial. Participation in the farewell ceremony is open to all of Judy’s friends.

MEmorial: https://blackferkstudio.com/en/judyinthesky-en/#memorial (registration deadline: 18.04.)

The MEmorial is the event part that gives Judy’s friends time and space to say goodbye to this special person. The themes of death, vulnerability and pain take centre stage on this evening.
This and more awaits you at the MEmorial:

Altar: Bring mementos for Judith’s altar and immerse yourself in your grief there.

Piglet Post Office: Write a message for Judy and place it in the ‘Burning Ferk’ piglet urn, where it will be cremated at a later date.

Connect to Judy: This breathing meditation journey is an invitation to connect inwardly with Judy, to send her a message and perhaps to receive one too.

Reading and music: Friends recite memories of Judith, texts and songs and show the many facets of Judith’s friendships.

Judith cult: This is your ritual to turn private moments of remembrance into a collective experience. Bring a symbol, a word, a movement, a song that you associate with Judith.

Fold & tear(s): Fold an origami figure – we use it to create a joint work of art.

Oriental feast: Take part in the oriental feast (€40 p.p., registration required).
